Living Below the Line - Day One

This and all this weeks blog posts are going to be dedicated to Below the Line

This is a Challenge that I kinda excepted as a campaign for BzzAgent.

Live Below the Line is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that's making a huge difference in the fight against extreme poverty.

Quite simply, we’re building a movement of passionate people willing and able to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most.

Live Below the Line is challenging individuals and communities to see how much change you can make out of $1.50. By living off just $1.50 per day for food for 5 days, you will be bringing to life the direct experiences of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty and helping to make real change.

Think about that figure - 1.4 BILLION - that's over 4 times the population of the United States - living every day in extreme poverty.

The challenge?

Spend 5 days feeding yourself with $1.50 a day – the U.S. equivalent of the extreme poverty line.

The reason?

To give a glimpse into the lives of 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line every day – and who have to make $1.50 cover a lot more than food…

I fully intended to try this.  Then Life got in the way.  Too many commitments this week.  But I did make time to do a meal plan.

So here it is:

Monday

Breakfast

Yogurt - $.60 @ Kroger with coupon =                                                                  $0.48

Lunch
Sandwich I have to estimate this (bread 1 slice ham and 1 slice cheese)                $.75

Dinner
Manwich Kroger $1 / can with coupon = $.83
Venison (free thanks to hubby)
Buns @ Kroger $1
Strawberries Sam's Club $ 1.5 worth

Total = $3.33 / 4 family members (Caitlyn does not eat much)                               $0.83

Need my Diet Coke 3 / $12 =  $.33 / can                                                                   $.33

Total $2.39

Ok, I went over.  :(

But not bad. I can't see how people do it.

CAN YOU EAT FOR $1.50 / DAY ????
